The Future of International Volunteering: Policy into Practice

This three day international conference was held in Pretoria in November. Discussions were held on key contemporary issues in volunteering and development, and on good practice in international volunteering. The programme for IVSO 2002 included the following sessions:

• New trends in volunteer sending agencies

• The role of international volunteering in an era of donor synergy and collaboration

• The relationship between national and international volunteering

• The view of the partners and volunteers: perspectives from work on the ground and examples of good practice in IVSO activity

• Case studies of partner organisations of IVSOs offering distinctive perspectives within different IVSO frameworks, e.g. development, rights based work, conflict/peace initiatives

• Volunteering traditions in an African context
