Healing therapy for vulnerable children in Botswana

Joanne Gowing, 21 and from Leicester, volunteered with Skillshare International as part of the ICS programme after completing a Psychology degree at Nottingham Trent University. Joanne had always wanted to volunteer overseas and when she heard about the ICS programme she knew that this was an opportunity she couldn’t turn down.

We placed Joanne with the Ark 'n Mark Trust in Botswana where she supported their work with orphans and vulnerable children.

“I finished my studies in June of 2011 and decided to take the opportunity to live my dream. It was a risk to go so soon, not knowing my grades and knowing I would be missing my graduation but I knew I could not let such a great opportunity pass me by. I had the time of my life, and believe I really did help in making a difference.”

Skillshare International works in partnership with the Ark 'n Mark Trust, which provides psycho-social support and healing therapy for children who have lost their parents.
