Help us select our future volunteers

ICS Skillshare logo

Skillshare International is currently recruiting and training volunteer selectors to help out at volunteer assessment days for our International Citizen Service (ICS) youth volunteering programme in the East Midlands. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in developing their skills (in particular interview, communication and report writing skills) and learning more about ICS.

What is ICS?

ICS is the UK’s leading global volunteering programme for young people who want to do voluntary development work abroad. Delivered by a group of eight charities, ICS brings together young people from different countries to fight poverty – with volunteers from the UK working alongside volunteers from the developing world. For more information about ICS please visit the ICS website: https://www.volunteerics.org/

What do selectors do?

Selectors will assess the suitability of applicants against the criteria of the programme through structured one-on-one interviews and through observed group activities. This is done at selection days in which selectors are part of a dynamic team aiming at making the best decision for the programme and for the young volunteers.

ICS will provide training on assessment centre methodology and the skills you will gain will not only look great on your CV, but they will help you contribute to the on-going success of ICS by helping us to select our next generation of volunteers.

Skills you can expect to gain/use include monitoring tasks, observation, team-work, note-taking, evaluation against set criteria, interviewing skills and decision making.

The training day will be held in Leicester city centre, whilst all following selection days will take place in Nottingham, Birmingham and/or Leicester. Selection days are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and we ask that in return for the training you commit to 6 days within a 4 month period.

Travel expenses will be paid, lunch will be provided and full training will be given.

If this sounds like an opportunity for you and you feel you meet the Person Specification then tell us a bit about yourself and why you should be a selector by completing the ICS Selector Application Form.

The recruitment process for this position is ongoing throughout 2015, please email your completed application to emily.marshall@skillshare.org and we will be in touch with the training date. Good luck!
